Hello
I am currently reading a fabulous book called ‘The Book of Witching’ which is all about a woman accused of witchcraft in the Orkneys in the 16th Century – interwoven with modern day cults. It’s a fab read – and last night I met the author C J Cooke. She spoke about her research for the book delving into the witch trials and the subjugation of women which still echoes down into the world today.
This isn’t just about dressing up in a witches hat (although I am quite partial to that, as per the photo), this is about how women throughout history into today are and continue to be, treated differently still in modern society.
Just this week I was reading that women’s heart attack symptoms are different to men’s, so when a women goes to the doctor with stomach pains, sweating, fatigue, shortness of breath – they’re often told it’s something else.
Women are twice as likely to die of coronary heart disease, the main cause of heart attack, as breast cancer in the UK. Yet it is still not always seen as a woman’s problem. Over a ten-year period more than 8,200 women died needlessly following a heart attack in the UK. They could have been saved if they had received the same quality of care as men. (Taken from the British Heart Foundation).
Heart attack symptoms can vary from person to person but the most common signs of a heart attack in women are:
- chest pain or discomfort in your chest that comes on suddenly and doesn’t go away. It may feel like pressure, tightness or squeezing. The pain or discomfort may spread to one or both of your arms, or may spread to your neck, jaw, back or stomach
- shortness of breath or difficulty breathing with or without chest discomfort
- feeling dizzy, light-headed or faint
- feeling sick, indigestion, being sick
- sweating or a cold sweat
- a sudden feeling of anxiety that can feel like a panic attack
- a lot of coughing or wheezing.
You may experience just one or a combination of these symptoms.
Not sure how I got from the Scottish Witch Trials to heart attack symptoms 😀 – but the point is that women have been made to fit into a man sized box, and it doesn’t always work out the same.
‘Women are not small men’.
Women’s natural instincts have been suppressed and thought of as a bit woo – when women are naturally instinctive beings, we are in touch with our bodies (we’ve had to be since puberty due to periods, from which we don’t want to be caught unawares), we are able to feel when something is ‘off’, we are non-linear.
So, if you want to get more in touch with your ‘non-linear’ being, then join me for my next Breathwork session.

If you’ve got this far then I’ve got a little treat for you. As part of my Plant Medicine course, I’ve had to write an essay about the magical power of the nettle. I’m still on writing it – but I have designed a mini ebook all about the nettle and how to make nettle tea, soup and a fab pesto.
If you’d like it you can download it from here.
